Clairemont Democratic Club

America's Finest Democrats. In the Heart of San Diego!

January Club Updates

The Clairemont Democratic Club would like to congratulate Francine Busby on her re-election as Chair of our San Diego County Democratic Party!

gloria2Also, be sure to put our next two gatherings on your calendars!

For our February 10 meeting, we are honored to welcome our friend and former Interim Mayor and President of City Council, Todd Gloria.

For our March 10 meeting, we will have Carol Kravetz from Al Gore’s climate change organization. Carol retired from television & movie production last year, having worked on Breaking Bad for several seasons, as well as cult classic This is Spinal Tap. She will be coming in from Los Angeles to speak to us and take questions.

Both meetings start at 7:00pm at Boomerangs (4577 Clairemont Drive, San Diego, CA 92117). Remember to order food and/or drink if at all possible as the owners of Boomerang’s will have to start charging the club for the use of the space if we don’t spend at least $150 while there. They are good Democrats and a Clairemont business and deserve our support.

It’s a new year! If you haven’t already renewed your club membership, then don’t forget to bring your $20 dues – cash or checks.

Our last meeting was wonderful! We received handouts from Ryan Trabuco about how Clairemont had done in the recent November election, with a comparison of how it went in 2012. Good news – Clairemont went blue for Scott with many more votes for him in 2014. We also heard from new member Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, who was in charge of much of the Coastal GOTV field operation for Scott Peters’ campaign.  Clairemont had 52% voter turnout – much more than the rest of the city, and lots more than the rest of California. Scott took over 60% of the votes in many of our precincts. Carl DeMaio only won 5 of our 42 precincts, capping out at only 51% of the votes in those 5. Clairemont really put Scott over the top!

Our speaker was Gil Cabrera, a Democratic activist and attorney, who has done a lot of public service for non-profits as well as on city commissions (and still does). He spoke about what we need to do to have Democrats win in all of our city elections. These new methods have been used in other states (Florida congressional campaign and Virginia Governor campaign) and have worked well. We hope to employ them here in 2016.

See you at our upcoming meetings. Come show your support for Todd Gloria in February, and the Al Gore Climate Change organization with Carol Kravetz in March!  All the best for 2015!
