Hello, Clairemont Democrats!

John Hartley, former San Diego City Councilmember and champion on a local clean elections initiative will be our guest speaker on Tuesday, October 9th.

We will also hear from both sides of the SDSU West issue (Measure G) on the ballot this November. Then, we will vote to take a position on both SoccerCity and SDSU West.

Finally, we will take a position on an election that was brought to our attention recently. There will be two retention elections for Associate Justices of the California Supreme Court.

Back in 2008, the state of California successfully overturned a marriage ban for same-sex couples. Carol Corrigan, one of the Associate Justices up for retention election, was one of three judges who dissented. She is a Schwarzenegger appointee from 2005. If she is retained, she will be able to serve another 12-year term on the California Supreme Court — that means she won’t be back in front of voters until 2030!

So, we will be taking a position on that election.
