We are excited to welcome our guest speaker: San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn.
Councilmember Whitburn represents District 3 which includes Balboa Park and the surrounding neighborhoods including Downtown. Recently, he was named as Chair of the City’s Audit Committee.
Join us for our next club meeting on Tuesday, February 8th at 7:00pm — this will be an all-virtual club meeting.
UPDATE January 22nd: We had previously announced an endorsement consideration for San Diego County Assessor-Recorder-Clerk, however due to candidate unavailability we will not consider an endorsement for that race at this time.
Hi Clairemont Democrats!
At Tuesday’s meeting, we announced that we will be holding a special endorsement meeting later this month on Thursday, January 27th at 7:00pm. Different day, but same time as our regular meetings.
We will be considering 3 endorsements at this special meeting:
Now that redistricting has been finalized, we will provide an update on redistricting and how it effects Clairemont for the next decade.
And speaking of redistricting, Clairemont has been drawn into Congresswoman Sara Jacobs‘s district, and we are excited to welcome her to our club and speak about her first term in Congress!
Finally, since it’s the start of a new year, your memberships are due! Please renew or join here.
There are a number of Clairemont residents sounding the alarm on redistricting.
At the last meeting of the City of San Diego’s Independent Redistricting Commission, they ended with a map that draws Clairemont into 4 DISTRICTS (image above)! This proposed map would split us — unlike any other community in the city — into portions of Council Districts 1, 2, 6, and 7.
This is abysmal, and we need to organize and start providing feedback to the Independent Redistricting Commission, including at their next commission meeting this Thursday, October 28th at 5:30pm. Information for their next meeting can be found here.
There is an alternate proposal (image below) supported by the Clairemont Town Council and many members of the Clairemont community below, which would unite our community in a single council district.
If you support the alternate plan as shown above, follow the directions below to show your support for keeping our community together! And ask other Clairemonters who care about this community to do the same.
This month, we’re excited to hear from Eden Yaege, President of our Clairemont Town Council, who will update us on what’s happening at the town council and their upcoming Board elections.
Join us for our next club meeting on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00pm — this will be an all-virtual club meeting. As much as we would like to try more hybrid-type meetings, the alarming rise in the Delta variant COVID cases are worrisome.
Since our previous meeting was pre-emptied by an all-hands-on-deck meeting of our local Democratic Party, we will welcome Janessa Goldbeck to present a resolution to ban ‘ghost guns’ — unregistered, unregulated, untraceable firearms that can be 3D-printed and manufactured. Clairemont Democratic Club will take a position on the resolution being presented. Here is the text of the resolution.
The recall election is this same night, so we will also check out election returns as they come in for the remainder of the evening.
Remember to VOTE NO before Tuesday, September 14th!
Finally, if you’re new to our club, welcome home!
Join us for our next club meeting on Tuesday, August 10th at 7:00pm — this will be an all-virtual club meeting. As much as we would like to try more hybrid-type meetings, the alarming rise in the Delta variant COVID cases are worrisome.
We will welcome our San Diego County Democratic Party Chair Will Rodriguez-Kennedy as a guest speaker to speak about the fast-approaching recall election.
Be sure to double check your voter registration, and make sure everything is up-to-date. Absentee ballots for the recall election will be mailed out the week of August 16th — just 3 weeks away!
The recall election is Tuesday, September 14th, and remember to vote NO!
Also, we will welcome Janessa Goldbeck to present a resolution to ban ‘ghost guns’ — unregistered, unregulated, untraceable firearms that can be 3D-printed and manufactured. Clairemont Democratic Club will take a position on the resolution being presented. Here is the text of the resolution.
