Clairemont Democratic Club

America's Finest Democrats. In the Heart of San Diego!

Club Meeting: April 9

Hello, Clairemont Democrats!

We will be conducting an installation for our club’s officers, as well as discussing the issue of clean elections for our next meeting on Tuesday, April 9th! Speakers John Hartley and James McCord will discuss those efforts happening locally and statewide.

Also, we will hold a Candidate Open Mic Night! Any Democratic candidate running in 2020 is welcome to speak in increments of 5 mins max (Candidates or representative must sign up at entry and allow 3 candidates to speak before a second turn). This will allow them time to try new material, platform, pitch or share thoughts on their campaign.

Finally, the county party’s 39th Annual Roosevelt Dinner is coming up on Saturday, May 11th. We’ve put together a fantastic basket to be bid on at the dinner.

If you’d like to attend and sit with our club, purchase your tickets here and let them know you’d like to sit with the Clairemont Democratic Club!

If you have suggestions or ideas about meeting topics or event types that you’d like us to host, please email them to me or visit our Facebook page.

If you would like to join, or renew your club membership ($20 dues), please do so on our membership page. You may also renew at the meeting. Or, if you would prefer to mail a check, here is our PO Box information:

It is our shared responsibility to ensure that people are informed, educated, and not mystified by stage craft, economic bribery or the feeling of helplessness. We have so many exciting things in store for our Clairemont Democratic Club members. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you at one (but hopefully all) of our meetings and events.

Club Meeting: Tuesday, March 12

Hello, Clairemont Democrats!

Will Rodriguez-Kennedy, newly elected Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party, will be our guest speaker for our next meeting on Tuesday, March 12th!

Will is a United States Marine Corps veteran who overcame homelessness after being discharged under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. Afterwards, he became an activist in the LGBT community, was elected Co-Chair of San Diego LGBT Pride, and elected Club President of San Diego Democrats for Equality. Last year, he was elected President of the California Young Democrats and was hired by the California Democratic Party as their Millennial Outreach Coordinator.

At 31, he is the youngest county Democratic Party Chair among 10 largest counties in the country — and we are happy to welcome him as our guest speaker!

Also, we will be conducting elections for our club’s Executive Board at our March 12th meeting. Positions up for elections include:

  • Club President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Hospitality Chair, I.T. Chair, Membership Chair, and Political Action Chair are appointed positions. If you are interested in serving on our board, please let us know!

Finally, you may’ve heard that we were nominated for CLUB OF THE YEAR last month by the San Diego County Democratic Party’s Council of Clubs. Although we did not win, we are thrilled to have been nominated, and are excited for our friends at Fallbrook Democratic Club. They will be honored at our party’s upcoming Roosevelt Dinner this year.

If you have suggestions or ideas about meeting topics or event types that you’d like us to host, please email them to me or visit our Facebook page.

Dr. Jen WINS! Let’s Celebrate Next Tuesday!

Hello, Clairemont Democrats!

Fellow club members — SHE DID IT!

Our own Dr. Jen did the impossible, the improbable, and defeated Trump Republican Lorie Zapf, and it wasn’t even close!

With 100% of precincts reporting, Jen Campbell won by 12 points!

On behalf of the Clairemont Democratic Club, a club that you helped get off the ground several years ago, we are so proud of you! Congratulations!

Given all of the other results, we can review those successes and celebrate those victories at our next club meeting on Tuesday, November 13th. We have invited Andy Keatts with Voice of San Diego to discuss some of the big election results locally.

See you next Tuesday!

Vote NO on Associate Justice Carol Corrigan!

Clairemont Democrats,

On your November ballot, there will be retention elections for two Associate Justices of the California Supreme Court. One of those Associate Justices is Carol Corrigan.

She is a Schwarzenegger appointee from 2005. Back in 2008, the state of California successfully overturned a marriage ban for same-sex couples. Associate Justice Carol Corrigan was one of three judges who dissented. Then, Justice Corrigan ruled in favor of sustaining Prop 8 as the law of the land in the historic Strauss v. Horton case that deemed it unconstitutional. If she is retained, she will be able to serve another 12-year term on the California Supreme Court — that means she won’t be back in front of voters until 2030!

We are proud to stand with our friends at the San Diego Democrats for Equality in asking voters to vote NO on Carol Corrigan.

Please make sure that you are up-to-date with your voter registration. If you have moved since the last election, or need to change or update other information, you may do so online: registertovote.ca.gov

Also, before you vote — check out our Clairemont Democratic Club endorsement page for our recommendations for the upcoming General Election on November 6th: clairemontdems.org/endorsements
